Class Description

Theme for the month | Personal Project

Your personal project is an opportunity to showcase your growth and progress from the past 2 years of working online It should bring together all of the techniques and skills that we have been working on. This project will be a 7-session challenge, allowing you enough time to create a piece that is involved and accomplished. For those who prefer to tackle a master copy challenge. Email me a picture of your 2 top choices. dm@dominiquemedici.com. I will email you back a response with suggestions.

Choosing your Subject:

Below is criteria to consider when choosing your subject for your Personal Project:

  1. It can be based on your favorite subject, such as, a figure in a landscape, mastercopy, an interior or a still life.

  2. Your subject can be a family member and be painted from life or posthumously.

  3. They can be a mentor, coach, public figure or historical figure that you admire?

  4. In either of the cases above you will need to have access to a clear reference photo of the person/ scene/ object that you will paint?

  5. The photo reference should have good lighting and contain a good range of values. Preferably lit with a single light source.

  6. Consider what the significant traits or qualities of this person/ scene/ object that you would you like to capture in your painting and ask yourself if the image you are considering has those qualities in it

  7. Consider how complex the detail and composition in the photo is. Consider how this might affect the level of difficulty of the painting process? If you are unsure bring a couple of options and Dominique can help you decide

  8. Think about how this person/ scene/ object inspires or motivates you?
