Theme for the month | Chroma and Temperature. This month we explore Chroma and Temperature. We will have two 2 week poses and explore the subtlety of balancing chroma, value and temperature in portraits and figures. Dominique will demonstrate and break it down the process in to clear steps. We will use a limited palette to help us understand color relationships and provides feedback during group critiques.

Theme for the month | Footsteps of Anthony van Dyck For our first exercise in this new class we will test our skills and take them to new levels by walking in Van Dyck’s footsteps. We will paint a master copy. This is a 4 week pose.

Theme for the month | Chiaroscuro We learn how to paint light and dark against each other to create, tension, drama and intensity. We will have two 2 week poses, first looking at the master of chiaroscuro Caravaggio and then painting a model based on Caravaggios style.

Theme for the month | Painting Light We copy a painting by the master of light, Vermeer. You will have a choice of one of 5 images to copy. We will dive deep into the subtleties of capturing light and use edges and texture to create feeling atmosphere. This is a 4 week pose. In March we will be composing our own interior based on what we learned this month.

Theme for the month | Painting Interior Light In Feb we did a master copy of a Vermeer. This month we compose our own interior scene based on one of Vermeer’s paintings. You will need to provide your own reference for this month. It can be as simple as replicating one of Vermeer’s interiors or you can play with the theme and make it your own, your composition should include a person, window and interior space.

Theme for the month | What color is White? How do we paint light white tones without it looking chalky? This month we learn from at Cecilia Beaux, Sargent and Sorolla and explore the subtlety of color and value in bright light paintings. We will keep it light and loose by doing one painting per week.

Theme for the month | Sargent Venetian Scenes This month we take composition and color inspiration from John Singer Sargent and his gorgeous venetian scenes which are masterpieces of composition and light. We will do 2 paintings.

Theme for the month | Sorolla’s Beach Compositions. This month we will delve into Sorolla's masterful use of light and color. We will study how Sorolla creates a mesmerizing luminous interplay between warm and cool colors, through his use of color temperature. And through his expertly crafted compositions, we will explore the beauty of nature and the everyday joys of human life.

Theme for the Month | Personal Project Your personal project is an opportunity to showcase your growth and progress. It can be based on your favorite subject, such as painting a family member a figure in a landscape or a challenging master copy. Whatever you choose, it should bring together all of the techniques and skills that we have been working on. This project will be a 7-session challenge.

Theme for the month | Whistler’s Serene Tonality and Composition This month we will explore the masterful tonality and composition of James Abbott McNeill Whistler. Through studying and mixing his subtle muted color palette, we will learn how to create harmonious arrangements of form and color. Our aim is to capture the mood, grace and elegance of Whistler's introspective portraits.

Theme for Month | Painting in Florence Italy In July Dominique will be painting in the streets of Florence and filming the process. Subjects include city streets, architecture and landscape. Each Wednesday the recorded demo and reference is uploaded for you to watch. You have a week to complete the assignment and upload your painting for a recorded iPad critique before moving on to the next assignment.

Theme for Month | Draw in Florence Italy…from the comfort of your home. Medici draws, architecture and sculpture in the streets of Florence and films the process. In this unique class you will learn how to draw sculpture and architecture in a step by step process.

Theme for the month | Painting the Tuscan Countryside We travel to beautiful places in the summer and then life takes over when we return, our busy schedules make us forget the beauty, inspiration and peace. This class aims to extend and transform those memories into paintings. We will discuss strategies and techniques for turning our holiday photos into compelling paintings.

Theme For the Month | Alla Prima Portrait Painting We will paint single session portraits. This is a great way to loosen up and get back into regular practice. We will focus on the 4 main aspects of a portrait: Proportion, Value Color and Edge and aim to capture a likeness in 2 hours.

Theme for the month | Master Series - Sir Henry Raeburn In This class we will practice the techniques of famed Scottish portrait painter Sir Henry Raeburn. You can choose 1 of 5 reference photos to work from. Any Raeburn painting that you find on your own would be fine too. . Our goal will be to work directly with the sight size approach and use his earth tone palette. We aim to finish the portrait in 4 sessions.
