Theme for the month | Gesture and Portrait Drawing on Toned Paper We will practice gesture drawing with a variety of short poses using charcoal. We will focus on the 3 main aspects of a portrait: Proportion, Value, and Edge. This month we will also look at the form and structure of the mouth. This Class starts with 20-30 min of gesture drawing followed by a lesson and/or critique of the previous weeks work.

Theme for the month | The Reclining Figure on Toned Paper We have 2 projects this month. The first is a copy of a Euan Uglow reclining figure and the second is a figure inspired by him. As Always, we learn how to simplify the forms of the figure and head by compressing values and breaking down the drawing process into clear steps. We will focus on the 3 main aspects of a portrait: Proportion, Value, and Edge.

Theme of the Month | Drawing Facial Expressions This month we will have a little fun and explore facial expressions in portraiture. We will draw one portrait per session. We will learn techniques to achieve dynamic energy and natural expression.

Theme for the month | Double Figure Drawing on Toned Paper This month we do 2 drawings, the same poses but from the opposite side. In our multi figure drawing we will pay careful attention to the composition and rhythm in the pose. We will work on toned paper with Graphite or Charcoal pencil.

Theme For the Month | Drawing a Portrait in One Sitting We start the fall season with drawing single session portraits. We will do 2 studies of Sargent's drawings and then 2 portraits inspired by his compositions. This is a great way to loosen up and get back into regular practice. We will focus on the 3 main aspects of a portrait: Proportion, Value and Edge and aim to capture a likeness in 2 hours.

Theme for the month | Figure Sketch on Toned Paper This month we will do a combination of short and long poses. We will learn how to simplify the forms of an athletic body in motion and aim to get the energy, gesture and rhythm in our drawings. Dominique will provide demos and break down the process of drawing into clear and consecutive steps.

Theme | Drawing our Furry Friends This month we lighten our hearts by drawing those close to it, our beloved pets. Dominique demonstrates the process of drawing her 2 new family members, Bow and Luna. You can draw your own pets, mine if you don’t have any or any other animal you would like. Dominique breaks down the process of drawing into clear and consecutive steps and she narrates the process as she works.
